re-branding

the modern tonkin princess.

My new collection is a mark of change. Change from discovery, to taste. I changed my brand into my full name, because that is what I want my pieces to be associated with.

Tonkin: northern Vietnam during the French colonial period. The term Tonkin was never officially used by the Vietnamese to describe their country. Tonkin was centred on the densely populated and intensively cultivated Red River delta.

Tonkin Princess Collection was inspired by Vietnam colonial times. I figured that Western world are taking inspiration from our times. We would like to make an attempt of this, show them how it’s done.

material: brocade. custom-tailored.

Growing up in Vietnam, I was constantly surrounded by an array of captivating patterns that unconsciously inspired my creativity. This experience allowed me to recognize that art is ubiquitous, and that Vietnam boasts a plethora of distinctive garment design styles, particularly those featuring brocade. This fascination eventually led me to launch a bespoke contemporary fashion brand called "aahlaii", utilizing brocade, a prestigious fabric often found in traditional Vietnamese garments, to authentically display and celebrate Vietnamese body image while also being inclusive and respectful of diverse body types and sizes. Our brand pays tribute to Vietnam's rich cultural history while providing a modern, inclusive approach to fashion.
